About Mount Gravatt

Mount Gravatt is the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia`s southern suburb and a popular hill within this area. Mount Gravatt has had a total of 3,366 residents in the 2016 census.

The suburb is located in the city`s southeast, and was one of the largest in Brisbane. That was until it was split into Mount Gravatt East, Upper Mount Gravatt and Mount Gravatt South in the early 1990s.

History of Mount Gravatt

In 1840, surveyor Robert Dixon named the hill Mount Gravatt after Lieutenant George Gravatt, who was the commander of the Moreton Bay penal colony from May to July 1839. Gravatt was later transferred to India where he died in 1843.

Electric trams were operated from the suburb into the Central Business District of Brisbane (CBD) via Logan Road between 1953 and 1969. Because Mount Gravatt was the end of the road, part of the region was locally known as the "Terminus"
