About Fairfield

Fairfield, a residential suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is approximately 5.8 kilometres south of the Brisbane CBD on the Brisbane River. 

The suburb  is bordered by the South Brisbane Cemetery to the north, by the Beenleigh railway line to the east,  by Venner Road to the south and by the Brisbane River to the west.

History of Fairfield

The suburb was named after the property settled by Grimes. The property consisted of wetland and lagoons, and was used for dairying

It was in 1849 when Samuel Grimes and his brother George Grimes  immigrated to Queensland. They established an arrowroot farm called Fairfield in the area in 1857.

Tourist Attraction in Fairfield

The suburb has many parks and a Skate Park that caters for young people. It also has its own shopping centre which is the Fairfield Gardens located at 180 Fairfield Road. The Coles supermarket is the main shop in the centre.

There are Terry White Chemist, Australia Post, BWS, Dollars and Cents, and a Doctors surgery within the suburb. Also a public library at Fairfield Gardens was operated by the Brisbane City Council.

Schools in Fairfield

There are no schools in the suburbs. The nearest government primary schools are Junction Park State School in the neighbouring suburbs of  Annerley, and Yeronga State School at Yeronga. The  Yeronga State High School is the nearest government secondary school. 

Inner City South Secondary College, a new government secondary school is expected to open in neighbouring Dutton Park in 202.
