About Coopers Plain
Coopers Plains in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia is an upper southern suburb. Coopers Plains had a population of 5,483 at the 2016 census.
Coopers Plains is situated 11 kilometers (7 mi) southwest of the Brisbane CBD. The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital is based in the area.
History of Coopers Plain
The town was originally named Plains of Cowper. It was possibly named after Dr. Henry Cowper, Assistant Surgeon-in-Charge at the Moreton Bay Penal Settlement from 1823 until 1832, by Patrick Logan.
In 1828 a convict settlement was established at Cowper`s Plains. The name was corrupted, and the area became known as Coopers Plains by 1860. It became known as Coopers Plains by 1877. In 1876 the first postal office opened.
In October 1884, T Howling & Co advertised 275 allotments of "Flemington Estate" for sale. A map advertising the sale states that the estate was close to the railway station in Coopers Plains, and that coaches passed the estate every day.
Tourist attraction in Coopers Plain
Brittain Park is located in Coopers Plains, along Troughton Road. The park consists of a large field where soccer, football, cricket, and/or beach volleyball are free to play. A car park is available on Troughton Rd for use by anyone, as well as street parking. There is also a bus stop on Troughton Rd ahead of the park.
