History of Carindale

Carindale was the name of a residential estate built in the area in 1976. It was taken as the suburb`s official name when it was separated from Belmont in 1980. The name itself is a combination of "Carin" from the nearby Carina suburb, and valley meaning "dale."

Europeans first settled in the suburbs in the 1850s. The suburb is focused on timber and agriculture activities.

In 1973, Carindale Nursing Home opened at Foxglove St in the East Mt. of Gravatt and in 1978 Carindale became the existing shopping centre`s name for the developers. The Carindale suburb was established in 1980.
