About Buranda
Buranda is a former suburb that is now a locality in the southern Brisbane suburbs of Greenslopes and Woolloongabba of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It is about 3 km south of central Brisbane district.
Buranda’s location is an important transport hub for southern Brisbane. Logan Road and Ipswich Road, Pacific Motorway as well as the South East Busway with a station called Buranda busway station pass through the Buranda.
History of Buranda
The locality was originally known as Logan Road. It was named Buranda in 1921, four years after the railway station was given that name. Buranda was thought to have come from an Aboriginal word that refers to wind or a windy place, possibly a reference to wind from the Norman Creek.
Tourist Attractions in Buranda
Buranda has parks including Buranda Playground Park that features picnic areas/shelter, dog lash field and playground.
In the locality, there is the Princess Theatre which is the oldest theatre in Australia and was also listed on the Queensland Heritage Register. This theatre was designed to host balls, plays, musical performances and other public meetings. Also there is the Milani Gallery that lies in Logan Road. It supports Queensland artists and specializes in contemporary Australian arts.
