About Bulimba

Bulimba is a suburb in Australia`s City of Brisbane, Queensland. It is located at the southern bank of the Brisbane River, 4 kilometers (2.5 mi) northeast of the CBD, and borders Balmoral, East Brisbane, Hawthorne, and Morningside.

The Australian Census of 2011 reported a population of 5,941 rising steadily in 2016 to 6,843.

History of Bulimba

Originally Bulimba was populated by the Yuggara people, who existed in the region for at least 20,000 years.

Bulimba was called Toogoolawah in the 1820s and was established as an agricultural area, with suburban settlement starting in the property boom of the 1880s.

In September 1884, Hooker, Son and Elliot advertised 39 subdivided "Amos Estate" allotments for auction. A chart promoting the sale indicates that the estate was built from the Hamilton Hotel just across from the river and next to Apollo Candle Works.

The name of the park was changed to the Bulimba Memorial Park on 4 November 1919. Trees were planted and an honor board was mounted to honor the World War One servicemen, who lost in the conflict.
